Heavy Duty Electronic Gate Lock – Frequently Asked Questions

Learn how our slam-shut gate locks provide secure, keyless access and robust protection for remote infrastructure.

What is the Heavy Duty Electronic Gate Lock?

The Allied Locks Heavy Duty Electronic Gate Lock is a purpose-built access solution for forestry gates, utility compounds, water infrastructure, industrial sites and remote perimeter entrances. It combines automatic slam-shut locking with modern access control, eliminating the need for chains and padlocks.

Simply close the gate behind you.

As the gate closes, the latch automatically engages with the lock mechanism, securing the gate every time without manually locking a padlock or turning a key.

Authorised users can unlock the gate using a SALTO smartphone credential, a SALTO FOB, or both. Access permissions can be managed centrally, making it easy to issue, update or remove access without replacing keys.

Electronic access control gives organisations greater control over who can access their sites. Access can be issued, changed or removed without replacing keys, making it ideal for contractors, staff changes and sites with multiple authorised users.

The ABLOY PROTEC key override provides immediate mechanical access whenever required. This allows organisations to combine the convenience of electronic access control with the reassurance of a high-security key, which is often preferred for emergency access or by authorised responders such as Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ).

When fitted with SALTO access control, multiple authorised users can be issued with smartphone credentials, SALTO FOBs or both, depending on your organisation's access requirements.

A slam-shut gate lock simplifies access.

Instead of unlocking a padlock, removing a chain and remembering to lock it again afterwards, users simply open the gate, drive through and push it shut behind them. The gate automatically locks every time it closes.

Typical applications include:

  • Forestry
  • Electricity generation, transmission and distribution
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Local authorities
  • Industrial facilities
  • Mining and quarry operations
  • Remote infrastructure sites
